New York is a “no-fault insurance” state. This means that your policy covers your vehicle and those in it (with the exception of motorcycles), regardless of who or what caused the accident. Thus, you are covered regardless of who is “at fault” for an accident and without concern for the other drivers’ policies — policy covers you and your passengers, anyone else involved is responsible for their policy and their coverage.
New York requires every vehicle registered with the state to be insured, to a minimum coverage of $25,000 per person for bodily injury, $50,000 total for bodily injuries per accident (includes all passengers), and $10,000 for property damages, which is sometimes listed as 25/50/10 (individual max/per accident max/property max). For more in-depth coverage requirements, please see here.
